Representative Buddy West is a native Texan. He was born in Ballinger, Texas on October 9, 1936 and moved to Odessa From Ballinger in March 1944.

Representative West resides in Odessa with his wife, Shirley of  51 years. They have one son, two daughters, six grandchildren and a recent great-grand child.  He graduated with his BBA in business management from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin in December 1975. He retired after thirty years with Amoco where he worked in multiple capacities, such as, safety engineer, product technologist, and plant and field technician. 

Representative West was elected to the Texas House in 1992 where he represents Texas House District 81 which is composed of Ector,  Andrews, and Winkler Counties.  He is the immediate past Chairman of the House Committee on Energy Resources and was a member of the House Committees on Transportation and Redistricting. Currently he serves as a member of the House Committee on Law Enforcement and Environmental Regulation.  He is the immediate past Chairman of the Energy Council, and the Oilfield Cleanup Fund Advisory Committee.  Before his legislative career, he served on the Ector County School Board.

When not in Austin, Representative West spends his free time playing with his 7 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild, going to church, working around the house, and hunting with friends and his grandsons.    He loves to read, especially American and Texas history.
